Flexography and trends

In the coming years, food and beverages are expected to have a greater share in the market. This industry is one of the main consumers of flexible packaging products, such as films, bags and many more, which are printed with flexographic printing machines.

Asia Pacific is expected to record the highest growth rate ever seen. The e-commerce industry is growing rapidly and this is one of the biggest factors driving the adoption of flexographic printing machines. Since flexo printing plays an essential role in label printing, corrugated board is widely adopted throughout the industry.

According to Invest India, the e-commerce market in India will grow at an annual rate of 30% so that the gross value of the merchandise reaches USD 200 billion in 2026 and has a market penetration of 12% compared to the 2% real.

With the growth of the logistics industry in the region, which is one of the largest consumers of printed packaging and labels, the development of this market will be promoted.

According to the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), the total value of social logistics in the period January-July (2019) grew by 5.9 percent in unmatched prices year-on-year to 163.8 trillion yuan (about USD 23.1 billion).

Many companies that are part of large associations are entering the region to boost the market footprint. The associations are expected to showcase innovative products such as flexographic printing machines to the region.

´´Flexography in recent years is experiencing exponential growth due to the development of technologies for each of the components used throughout the printing process (Inks, Plates, Pre-Press Software, Anilox, Mounting Tapes , Raclas, stable printers at high speeds), this has led it to be the leading printing system in the packaging market, as well as to match the printing quality of gravure at a lower cost. Currently flexography is also used for printing newspapers, magazines, cardboard and corrugated, labels with adhesive and without adhesive, envelopes, wrapping paper, textiles, shower curtains and many others. Flexography continues to advance and I do not doubt offset printings will be migrated to the printing system in the short term, due to the rapid changes that these new times bring us.
